GOD-CONSCIOUS NATIONS PRODUCE RIGHTEOUS LEADERS

God-conscious Nations

Always Produce

Righteous Leaders

Corrupt people are generally

ruled by crooks and thugs

(M. Javed Naseem)

What is Islam? Islam is being God-conscious. Islam is total surrender or submission to the Will of God. Islam is righteousness and justice! You can’t be a pious or a righteous person without being just and honest in your dealings. The best definition of ‘righteousness’ comes directly from the Almighty God in the Holy Quran. Allah says:

It is not righteousness that you turn your faces

towards east or west; but the righteousness is to

believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels,

and the Books, and the Messengers; to spend of

your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin,

for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for

those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to

be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity;

to fulfill the contracts which you have made; and

to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and

adversity, and throughout all periods of panic.

Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing.”

(al-Quran 2:177)

Allah commands the believers in the Holy Quran to be just, honest and kind to others so that there is no injustice, inequality and indecency in the society. The Quran says:

Allah commands justice, the doing of good,

and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all

shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion. He

instructs you that you may receive admonition.”

(al-Quran 16:90)

The Bible Says:

But let justice roll on like a river,

righteousness like a never-failing stream!”

(Amos 5:24)

A society based on social justice and equality is a peaceful and happy society. But we need to train ourselves to be content with whatever we have earned honestly and legally. No greed, no injustice! All injustice springs from greed – we want something that does not belong to us or we don't merit to get that under the normal circumstances. It requires a man to have a lion's heart to be just and 100% honest in his daily life. Truth and justice demand sacrifice. Allah commands us:

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as

witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your

parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or

poor; for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the

lusts (of your hearts), lest you swerve, and if you

distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah

is well-acquainted with all that you do.”

(al-Quran 4:135)

You see the level of piety and righteousness in the above command of God about justice! The words “even as against yourselves”or against your family, would take you to another level of moral achievement which is rarely seen in today’s material world. That’s true justice, that's righteousness and that’s true Islam!

It is not easy to deliver justice or to maintain justice in a fast changing society where interests always clash, even in the family. With so much crime and injustice around us; with so much corruption in the society, with so much selfishness, we have lost confidence in people. We don’t trust people easily. There is always suspicion. The irony is that we are suspicious about others because we are judging them by our own yardstick and not by universal standards. At the same time, we don’t like to be judged by the same yardstick. We easily find faults in others but see no fault in ourselves. We criticize others but hate it when others criticize us as we feel insulted. Here’s what the Bible says:

Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality

to the poor or favoritism to the great,

but judge your neighbor fairly.”

(Leviticus 19:15)

Those people are blessed who get righteous leaders and rulers. Such rulers existed in every era. In the early age of Islam, the rulers were exemplary. They were the best role-models for anybody who wanted to serve his people and establish the rule of law.

The Western world considers the famous Indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi, as the most influential personality of the twentieth century. In some quarters he is treated like a saint. Indians, in general, and Hindus in particular, claim Gandhi as the greatest ‘son of India’. He always preached righteousness through modesty and non-violence. In 1937, while addressing the Indian Congress government’s cabinet of ministers, Gandhi advised all cabinet members to lead simple life. He said:

I cannot give you the examples of Ram Chandra and Krishna, because they were not the historical personalities. I have no other choice to give you the examples of Abu Bakr and Umar (bin al-Khattab) – the first two Caliphs of Islam – as symbols of modesty and simple life. They were the rulers of a great empire but all their lives they lived like beggars.”

(Quote from ‘Hareejan’, dated 27th July, 1937).

Amazing, isn’t it? The funny thing is that non-Muslims appreciate the teachings of Islam, whereas we Muslims don’t even care about it. As Muslims, we are terrible role models for others. It is time to get up and play the role we are supposed to play for the sake of our future generations. We should act with care and responsibility.

Now, the question is: Why would Gandhi refer to the Caliphs of Islam (Umar and Abu Bakr)? What did he see in their characters that convinced him that they were the best role-models as rulers and governors? It was their righteousness and modest living; their fear of God and their sense of responsibility in promoting justice; their obligations towards community to guarantee the rights of the poor.

Let’s see how Abu Bakr fared in his life and during his short tenure as the 1st Caliph of Islam. He was the first free and independent (not a slave) mature man who accepted Islam the very moment Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) invited him to the Truth. (But he was not the first person who accepted Islam, the first person being Khadija, Prophet’s wife).

He was given the title “Siddique” by the Prophet (s.a.w.) himself. Siddique means ‘the true friend’, the one who ‘embraces the Truth’. His obedience to Allah and loyalty to the Prophet (s.a.w.) were exemplary. The stories of his righteousness and piety are numerous. Abu Bakr was a businessman, one of the richest in Makkah. But after accepting Islam, he devoted all his money, efforts, labor and resources to the service of mankind just to please Allah. He used to buy slaves from the pagans and set them free. He would help the needy, the widows, the poor and the victims of injustice. He would sacrifice all his wealth for the cause of Allah.

Once, people of the area suffered from drought and then famine struck. Life became miserable as suffering increased. So, people came to Abu Bakr, who was the Caliph of the Muslims at that time. They said: O’ Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, the sky no longer brings down rain and the land no longer brings up crops or plants, and people fear a disaster. What are you going to do?

Abu Bakr replied, “Go now and be patient. I hope that Allah will bring His subsistence by the evening.”

When they went down the road, they saw one thousand camels laden with corn, oil and flour, standing near the house of Othman (r.a.a.), who was taking care of the supplies. When the merchants of the area heard of the food convoy, they came to see Othman (r.a.a.) for buying goods.

What are you looking for?” He asked them.

You know what we want,” they answered.

Othman (r.a.a.) asked them: ‘How much profit will you give me?’

Two Dirham of profit.”

I was offered more than that”, said Othman (r.a.a.).

Well, four Dirham.”

I was offered more.”

Then five Dirham.”

I was offered more than that”, declared Othman (r.a.a.).

We are the only merchants in town, so who offered you more than we did?”

Othman (r.a.a.) replied, “Allah offered me ten Dirham for every single Dirham; do you offer more than that?”

No”, the merchants answered.

Then you bear witness that I give away all these camels along with the goods in charity in the cause of Allah for the sake of the poor and the needy.”

Now, that’s righteousness and piety! That’s charity; and that’s caring and sharing. In fact, that’s Islam.

ALLAH WON'T CHANGE YOUR CONDITION Unless You Change First What's In Your Heart!

Change Begins At Home

Allah Won’t Change Your Condition

Unless You Change First

What’s In Your Heart!

Muslim leaders have betrayed

their nations and brought misery

to the Muslim Ummah.

(M. Javed Naseem)

Muslims all over the world are going through turmoil and hard trials. Their leaders, in general, have betrayed them and brought misery to their lives despite all the money (petro-dollars) in the world. No Muslim leader is sincerely and honestly doing anything for Muslim Ummah. We have been whining and complaining for years but nobody has done anything to change the condition of Muslims. Our leaders are enjoying power and happy lives. They are least concerned about the daily life of a common Muslim living in their own country or abroad. We make no effort to change the plight of the Ummah and pray that Allah improve our situation. But Allah has already shown us the way:

Lo! Allah changes not the condition of

a people until they (first) change that

which is in their hearts…”

(al-Quran 13:11)

Let’s not allow these tragedies and mishaps or conspiracies stop us from moving forward! Just learn your lesson from them and move on with a new resolve! Life goes on and time never stops for any one. But time never forgives those who don’t learn their lesson. Open the history books and see the proof! Every nation goes through trials and tests but their honest and sincere leaders lead them to prosperity and success after sacrifices. Today, most people are driven by their lusts and personal interests. Their ambitions have made them blind and they cannot see beyond their own interests. Allah the Almighty does not guide such folks. On the contrary, they are warned of severe punishment. Wrong-doing or misguided people become fuel of the Hellfire.

But if they hearken not to you, know that

they only follow their own lusts: and who is

more astray than one who follow his own lusts,

devoid of guidance from Allah? For Allah

guides not the wrong-doing people.”

(al-Quran 28:50)

Today, the relations are judged on the scale of material ‘interest’. Everything is motivated by personal, political or financial interest. People go for material benefits. There are parents in this world who sell their children; some send their daughters to prostitution; some kill them. There are children who are only interested in their parents’ wealth and property; they don’t respect or serve them; there are those who even kill them. It’s like dogs fighting over bones. Values have changed because of the Devil’s education that promotes fake freedom, fake democracy and fake concept of success. In fact, it is the materialism that has been given some fancy names to fool the young generation. This is the End Time!

Different groups of people are criticizing each other and playing the blame game. Some are blaming it on the Evil Empire (US-UK-EU-Israel) and are claiming that they have installed puppets in power in Muslim countries. There are general ignorant people who are plainly accusing the West (US-UK-EU) for all the upheaval and bloodshed in the Muslim world. No matter what the situation is or the conditions are, the fact remains that no foreign power or element can do anything harmful to another nation unless and until the local people collaborate. Those locals sell their conscience and do the evil (terrorist) work against their own countrymen. They are the Munafiqeen (hypocrites) who are doing more damage to their own countries and nations.

These days, everybody is talking of change; but the change comes from within. Change starts from home. Everybody has to start changing himself/herself before he/she sets out to change the country or the world. If you try to change for better, the Merciful Allah will help you change your circumstances and your country. You have to take the first step and make an effort.

Allah’s help is there fore everybody but everybody should know how to ask Allah for help. If you want Allah answer your prays, you need to qualify first. And what is that qualification? Obedience! Yes, obedience to Allah. You have to show Allah honestly and sincerely that you submit to Him and surrender to His Will. Show your loyalty to your Creator! There is NO other way to get help from Allah the Most Merciful. Fortunately, the guidance/help is still there for those who seek it.

LIMITS (LAWS) ARE SET TO MAINTAIN PEACE & JUSTICE In The Society.

Limits (Laws) Are Set To

Maintain Peace & Justice

In The Society.

Allah has drawn the line between Halal

and Haram. Freedom, liberty, rights

& responsibilities, everything has limits.

(M. Javed Naseem)

There is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ for everything, for every system. The sense of justice (right or wrong) normally springs from the base of ethics, morals and values. The Supreme Creator (Allah), Who created us humans, also gave us a code of conduct or ethics telling us what is right and what is wrong. He drew the line and set the limits for us. Those limits are called the ‘Hudood’ in the Quranic language.

These are the limits set by Allah. Therefore, do

not exceed them. Whosoever exceeds the limits

set by Allah, then, those are the transgressors.”

(al-Quran 2:229)

Man is generally a transgressor, a violator of the rules who crosses the limits all the time. He always tries to justify or rationalize that transgression or the breach of limits. But there are still people out there who love discipline/order and respect the limits because there is peace and justice in it. It all depends on how strong your Faith is, how deeply you believe in moral values, and what place you give Allah (and His commands) in your life. But the Commands of Allah are very clear. He wants us to live in a society based on social justice and equality – the way of Islam!

O you who believe! Enter Islam completely,

and do not follow the footsteps of Satan!

Surely, he is an open enemy to you.”

(al-Quran 2:208)

Allah, the Supreme Creator, has described the Quran as “Furqan”. Furqan means something that distinguishes or separates. The Quran separates the Right from the Evil (Wrong) and the Truth from the Falsehood. It draws the line and that line refers to the limits (boundaries) – 'Hudood' in Arabic – set by the Almighty to maintain justice and peace in the world. There are many modern Muslims, rather liberals, who rationalize the commands of Allah and interpret them to suit their own viewpoint. The West always try to promote such liberals as 'scholars' of Islam and give them the maximum coverage in the media. In exchange for material benefits and free publicity on international level, those so-called scholars (or hypocrites?) try to please their masters/promoters with dangerous edicts (Fatwahs) and create rifts, sectarianism and chaos among Muslims.

'Liberty' or 'freedom' and 'women's rights' are the favorite subjects of such scholars. They redress the Western cultural traditions and liberal views and cover them under Islamic cloak. Some years ago, they arranged a ridiculous cultural circus and called it 'liberal' or 'reformed' Islam. A mixed (both men and women) prayer (Salaat) session was organized in a Christian church and most American TV channels were invited to cover it. Modern Muslim men and bare-headed (no scarf or Hijab) women stood side by side, intermingled and mixed, in the same row (Saff) to offer prayer, while a modern woman with a short haircut led the prayer as Imam. It was given a lot of coverage and publicity by the corrupt and evil-spreading Western media.

Liberty and Freedom are the two most abused words in the Western culture. People do any stupid thing; say anything vulgar; and commit any indecent act in the name of liberty and freedom. But on the other hand, the West has introduced rules and laws to maintain peace and order. Those rules and laws certainly define the limits of liberty or freedom. There is a limit to everything and there’s wisdom in it! If something has no limits and no discipline, it’s chaotic.

*************************************

Don’t try to free yourself from all limits,

rules and disciplines! That’s not freedom!

Try to free yourself from desires that

keep you tied to the ground!

That’s real freedom!

*************************************

Rumi said: “Spend less time with nightingales and peacocks! One is just a voice, the other just a color!” The culture of nightingales and peacocks! That's the correct description of the Western culture offered by the Sufi saint and scholar Rumi. That's the glittering culture of colors and sounds, dance and music that promotes “animal” behavior instead of compassion and humanitarian values.

There’s a lot more to life than colors, sounds, dance and music. Islam offers a better way of life – a complete package of life. It offers everything but within limits. You take it as a whole or you leave it. You cannot choose some parts you like and leave those you don’t like. You have to take it as a complete package and abide by it. It is not a pick & choose system of life. There is a stern warning to those who ignore the Commands of Allah and commit disobedience.

Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger

and transgresses the limits set by Him, He shall

admit him to the Fire, where he will remain forever.

For him there is a humiliating punishment.”

(al-Quran 4:14)

If you feel embarrassed by ‘Hudood-Allah’ – the limits set by Allah between Halal and Haram, Good and Evil – then you are in the wrong place. You should leave Islam and join those liberals or hypocrites who put no limits to freedom but still obey the laws enforced by the Police Force, limiting their wild activities. They know that even freedom and liberty have limits. It means that your freedom or liberty ends where my freedom or liberty starts. Those liberals prefer to be controlled by man-made laws that God-made laws. And that’s an obvious disobedience to the Lord Creator.

In the country of the free – America – somebody was dancing in the street screaming ‘viva la liberte’ (long live liberty!), ‘I love freedom’. People gathered around him joining the fun. The dancing man punched somebody on the face and his nose started bleeding. The injured man screamed back: Listen you moron! Your freedom ends where my nose starts!

And that's the purpose of introducing the limits to liberty and freedom.

So, everything has its limits and that’s why we have laws, rules & regulations to maintain certain discipline, justice and order. Those limits are very important, rather essential, to maintain a peaceful society based on social justice and equality.

WHEN YOU PRAY, YOU WHISPER WITH GOD!

When You Pray,

You Whisper With God!

"Seek (Allah’s) Help In Patience

And Prayer!" -- (Al-Quran)

(M. Javed Naseem)

This is the Book! In it is guidance sure, without

doubt, to those who fear Allah; who believe in the

unseen; are steadfast in prayer; and spend out of

what We have provided for them; and who believe

in the Revelation sent to you, and sent before your

time; and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the

Hereafter. They are on (true) guidance from their

Lord, and it is those who will prosper.”

(al-Quran 2:2-5

Prayer is an integral part of the ‘Deen’ (religion) and is the best way to show Allah the gratitude and appreciation for all the favors and blessings He has bestowed upon us in this world. When you are praying, you are whispering with God. Praying has many physical as well as spiritual benefits. Allah says that prayer restrains us from evil and sin.

Jesus On Prayer:

Prophet Jesus, the son of Mary, told his disciples how to pray to God. Here is an excerpt from the Bible (the Gospel of Barnabas), Chapters 36-37:

Then Jesus said: ‘Truly I say to you, that he who makes not prayer, is more wicked than Satan, and shall suffer greater torments.’ Even as of such spoke the prophet David: “The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. Therefore are they corrupt and become abominable, without one of them doing good.”

Make prayer unceasingly, O my disciples, in order that you may receive! For he who seeks finds, and he who knocks to him it is opened, and he who asks receives. And in your prayer do not look to much speaking, for God looks on the heart; as he said through Solomon: “O my servant, give me your heart.”

Truly I say to you, that very few make true prayer, and therefore Satan has power over them, because God wills not those who honour him with their lips; who in the Temple ask (with) their lips for mercy, and their heart cries out for justice. Even as he says to Isaiah the prophet, saying:

Take away this people that is irksome to me, because with their lips they honour me, but their heart is far from me.” Truly I say to you, that he that goes to make prayer without consideration mocks God.… Yet no less does the man who goes to make prayer and prepares not himself. He turns his back to God and his face to Satan, and speaks well of him. For in his heart is the love of iniquity, whereof he has not repented. If one, having injured you, should with his lips say to you, “Forgive me”, and with his hands should strike you a blow, how would you forgive him? Even so shall God have mercy on those who with their lips say:

Lord, have mercy on us”, and with their heart love iniquity and think on fresh sins.”

The disciples wept at the words of Jesus and besought him, saying: “Lord, teach us to make prayer.” Jesus answered: “Consider what you would do if the Roman governor seized you to put you to death, and that same do you when you go to make prayer. And let your words be these:

O Lord our God, hallowed be your holy name, your kingdom come in us, your will be done always, and as it is done in heaven so be it done in earth; give us the bread for every day, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive them that sin against us, and suffer us not to fall into temptations, but deliver us from evil, for you are alone our God, to whom pertains glory and honour for ever.”

Holy Quran On Prayer:

You just read what Jesus said about prayers. Allah commanded Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and the believers to establish prayer. Here is a verse from the Holy Quran:

Recite what is sent of the Book by

inspiration to you, and establish regular

prayer; for prayer restrains from shameful

and unjust deeds; and remembrance of

Allah is the greatest (thing in life)

without doubt. And Allah knows

the (deeds) that you do.”

(al-Quran 29:45)

Allah, Who has created us, tells us that the greatest (or the best) thing in this worldly life is to remember Allah. And the best way to remember Allah is prayer and supplication. We must glorify Him as much as possible because He is the Creator of heavens and earth, and everything between them. He wants us to be consistent and steadfast in our prayers. This is an obligation that cannot be ignored:ً

And establish regular prayers at

the two ends of the day and at the

approaches of the night: For those

things, that are good remove those

that are evil: Be that the word of

remembrance to those who

remember (their Lord).”

(al-Quran 11:114)

Every good deed is beneficial to human beings; and so is the prayer. Those who remember Allah with their prayers, they’ll have no worries. There ‘shall be neither fear nor grief’ for them.ِ

Those who believe, and do deeds

of righteousness, and establish regular

prayers and regular charity, will have

their reward with their Lord; on them

shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”

(al-Quran 2:277)
